absent-minded professor - phrase:
Usage of the phrase "absent-minded professor" is common in the English language. Like the phrase itself implies, it is used to describe someone who is so engrossed in their 'own world' that they fail to keep track of their surroundings.

Your vacation sounds like fun! Are you coming back to the states for the holidays this year? It was good to see you last year.
I don+t have any plans on a state-side trip this year, but I will let people know if that changes.
